Title:
Senior RF Design Engineer
Job Type:
Permanent
Location:
Kirkland WA
Description:
The Senior RF Design Engineer plays a key role in every phase of the product lifecycle (Definition, Exploration, Architecting, Design, Development, Verification, Production & Sustainment) where they pull from their deep background in RF circuit design to aid in the quick progression through the smallest assessments to the largest architecture trades.

Responsibilities:
• Take ownership & drive RF circuit designs from concept through design, implementation, test & transition to manufacturing
• Provide deep technical expertise in the area of RF circuit design & RF Engineering; able to lead design-shaping discussions at each of idea, concept & planning stages
• Work well on an integrated product team where the design is dynamic; be comfortable with & embrace change
Required skills / experience:
• RF Circuit Design
o Multi-Chip RF modules (power amplifiers, driver amplifiers, digitally controlled phase-shifters & attenuators, power control circuitry, fault monitoring & isolation circuitry)
o High-Reliability (HIREL) hardware construction, High thermal density
o With experience designing RF components & modules in AWR/ADS or equivalent
o Lab HW bring-up, checkout & Design Verification Testing (DVT) of new RF designs
o Development of Acceptance Tests & Procedures and testing efforts DVT and Final Acceptance Test (FAT) for RF Designs
o RF Chain/Cascades Development & Analysis (Noise Figure, Gain, power, compression points, intercept points, temperature & frequency effects, harmonic estimation & spectral regrowth, etc…)
• Development of detailed RF designs including part selection trades, schematic capture, layout & simulation
o Schematic capture & layout for complex custom PCBA RF Designs (managing part libraries & BOMs) using Altium/Cadence or equivalent
o Design & generation of RF/Microwave circuit layouts & components and associated fabrication drawings & gerber/tool files
• Developing HW Architectures for new radars
o High-speed Switching Architectures (drain-banging operation)
o Heterodyne Receiver Design & Implementation
o Power Amplifier (& driver) Selection (Power Added Efficiency (PAE), Thermal considerations, GaN vs. GaAs etc…)
o Mechanical packaging concepts for densely packed ‘high-power’ RF circuitry
Must Understand the significance of:
• Low Phase noise synthesizer Design
• Clock Synthesizer & Distribution
• Printed Circuit Board stackups
• Link Budgets for Radar (Radar Range, Minimum Detectable Signal (MDS), Radar Cross Section (RCS) Estimation)
• Designing parts for ‘high-volume’ production & Transitioning designs to manufacturing teams
Desired Experience:
• Power supply architecture & design
• Analog Electronics design and troubleshooting
• High Speed Digital
• Driving work instructions and manufacturing/test flows
• HFSS/CST or equivalent
Qualifications:
• MS or BS Degree in EE, with 10-15 years’ experience in RF Circuit Design for Communications or Radar.
• Eligibility to handle export controlled data (ITAR, EAR).
• Has pulled multiple RF designs from concept development to successful field use (TRL9)
